The Holy Family's Blessing

The Holy Family rested at this sacred location during their journey through Egypt, blessing the land forever.
4th - 18th Century

Existence of the Church

The origins of the church date back to the 4th century AD, as evidenced by the earliest surviving manuscripts discovered from that period.
1902

Church Foundation

St. Mary Church was established to serve the growing Coptic community in Maadi, built on blessed ground.
1976

The Miracle of the Bible

On March 12, 1976, a large open book was seen floating on the Nile near the church. When retrieved, it was opened to Isaiah 19: “Blessed be Egypt My people.”
1983 - 1995

Major Restoration

Comprehensive renovation honoring the church's heritage while serving the growing congregation with enhanced facilities.
